SHIN GODZILLA, also known as GODZILLA RESURGENCE, brought the iconic Toho franchise roaring back to life with a monster-sized sweep of the 40th Japan Academy Prizes this week.
Out of the eleven awards it was nominated for, SHIN GODZILLA was awarded seven, including the top prize of Best Picture. Other awards were Best Director to Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography, Art Direction, Lighting, and Sound Recording. SHIN GODZILLA was also nominated for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Music.
The latest installment of the classic kaiju series earned $72 million at the Japanese box office last year — the highest-grossing Japanese Godzilla film ever — after the King of Monsters’ 12-year hiatus from the big screen (excluding Legendary Pictures’ 2014 version).
